Blue Friday

The Blue Marble — Earth as seen by Apollo 17 in 1972.

Blue Friday

Today is Black Friday, a tradition originally brought from across the Atlantic (a small part of which you can just about glimpse to the left of this image). Black Friday is a celebration of shopping. It ushers fourth unbeatablesales as well as incredible discounts; a rapid distribution of goods causing sizzling temperatures on all shop counters.
You are looking at the world's most widely distributed photography. It's the first picture ever taken by humans where Earth can be seen as one whole. Its floating like a marble within the great black universe. Thus, it was given the name «The Blue Marble». It was also quickly adopted by the environmental movement as a symbol of our planets fragility. Perhaps you're currently humming «The Marble of Our Lord» written by Erik Bye in 1974?

We know overconsumption is causing harm to the marble we live on. This should be kept at the back of our minds on this «black friday» - reduce the extent of our shopping to only include things we are certain that we need, in order to prevent a “blue monday”.
