Free Mermaid

This week Preus museum aims to promote the FREE ART 2020 initiative, with their aim to support artists and artistic institutions - in every country - create and carry out their artistic practice freely, without threat and persecution. This is a fundamental right and prerequisite within a free and democratic society. During this week a selection of pictures from the museums collection have been shared on our website, Facebook page and Instagram.

Lill-Ann Chepstow-Lusy is one of the norwegian artists who overtly tackles multiple themes surrounding a person's right to selfhood and their right to be proud of it. Topics like appearance and sexual alignment are essential as they concern everyone of us. The photo of «Den lille havfruen» (the little mermaid) was one of the pictures published within the book What the Heart Lacks, The Body Craves, from 1985.
