The Museum's Big Yellow book
Did you know that in Horten you can find a collection of photographs having international dimensions? Between the covers of the Kodak-yellow book with contact copies as a dust jacket one can discover much about the Preus Museum's collection and history of photography. The title of the book is En fotohistorie [A History of Photography], and that's exactly what the volume is. There are various histories of photography because the history is so rich and multifarious.
The Preus Museum's history of photography builds, of course, on Leif Preus's vision of what photography was. Twenty-six authors have written about photography with a starting point in the collection, and there are many varied accounts. One can read about the museum's founding by Leif Preus and the resulting Preus Museum of Photography; there are accounts of what so-called vision machines actually are, and what the first photographic technology involved. There are also accounts of unusual cameras, scientific and pornographic photography, selfies, the construction of the new museum at Karljohansvern—and much more.
