Book release - A History of Photography
The most profiled and international photographic collection in Norway is now available in book form! Preus museum releases the anniversary book "A history of photography - From vision machines to Instagram" at Fotogalleriet in Oslo Thursday October 15 at 18:00.
20 years ago, the Norwegian government bought the collection that photo enthusiast Leif Preus collected. A collection containing photographs, technical equipment and an extensive library. In making this book, the museum activates their large collection in a broad photo historical view which focuses on both technology, culture and arts development in photography.
The book offers extraordinary meetings with international artists like Anna Atkins, Edward S. Curtis, Lotte Jacobi and Edward Steichen, besides a number of Norwegian photographers, from Anders Beer Wilse and Knud Knudsen to Agnete Brun, Knut Bry, Marianne Heske and Tom Sandberg, to mention a few.
In times when images flowing through the new digital media is about to swamp us, it is more important than ever to visualize the photography’s historical significance and ability to make changes, and - not least - recreate the awareness of what a photograph is and can be!
The book has a number of contributors who will be present at the book launch. We are serving bubbles and refreshments. Welcome!
