Open call - Juried Exhibition
Preus Museum Photography Day is pleased to announce our fourteenth open call to the Juried exhibition! You are invited to submit your work in the 2021 festival theme: Documentation of the present.
The past year has been challenging all around the globe due to the global pandemic. Today’s humans have never experienced this kind of common challenge, although it can look very different in different parts of the world.
We challenge photographers, amateurs, and artists of all ages to share with us the connections you see with our theme. What has this last year felt like? Can you interpret your experience in photos? Is your story a highly personal one, or will you tell a tale that is universal?
A jury of experts aims to select the work of 50 photographers to exhibit on the Preus Museum Photography Day – Corona edition on the 28th of August. The jury is free to choose the images to be displayed.

How to enter
Enter with the images that describes your perception of this year, and this situation we are living in.
On the Photography Day, the photographers themselves are supposed to come to Horten and mount their photos on the walls of the Juried exhibition. The walls measure each 120x150 cm, and each photographer mounts his/her images within this area. The images are to be mounted unframed, with blu-tack or pins. The photographers will be present during the day and interact with the audience.
If the photographer is prevented from being present on the Photography Day, the photos can be sent by post well in advance, and the staff of the Preus Museum will tend to the mounting.
At the end of the event, there will be a prize ceremony, where the winners will be announced. The event will also be live streamed.
What are the judging criteria?
The images are selected by a jury of experts who look for images with visual quality. The jury is free to choose the images to be displayed. The jury will award the most interesting contributions.

Preus Museum is the national museum of photography in Norway and has hosted the Photography Day since 2007. The Photography Day is a celebration of the wonderful medium that entered the world through the daguerreotype in August 1839.
We aim to connect the different uses of the medium, both amateurs, artists, and professionals. The one-day-event is filled with exhibitions, lectures, and activities.
This year, due to the pandemic, we will have to prepare for some limitations in the program, but we are still very much looking forward to making a celebration worthy of the medium.
